Chris’s Guinness Bread – The Irish Baker Abroad

Chris’s Guinness Bread
300g | 2 1/2 cups Whole-wheat flour

100g | 3/4 cup Plain Flour

100g | 1 1/4 cup of Oats

1 1/2 tsp of Baking Soda

1/2 tsp of Baking Powder

1 tsp of Salt

1 tbsp of melted butter

2 tbsp of treacle or substitute with molasses

200ml | 3/4 cup of Guinness

250ml | 1 cup of Buttermilk

Method
Whisk the dry ingredients together in a bowl. In another bowl or jug mix, buttermilk and butter together with a fork. Add to the dry ingredients. Combine everything with a wooden spoon and pour it in to a greased 1.5L or a 2Ib loaf tin.Top with oats and Bake at 200C | 392F for about 50 minutes

Fan oven 180C | 356F

You can also use natural or Greek yoghurt as a substitute for buttermilk in this recipe. Just thin it out a little with a drop of water. Alternatively you can add about 1 1/2 tbsps of vinegar or lemon juice to 250ml of regular milk. Stir and let it stand for about 10 minutes before adding it.
