🛠️ Simple DIY Wheelbarrow (Basic Wooden Design)
🔧 Materials You’ll Need
- 1 old wheel (from a bicycle, cart, or stroller)
- Wooden planks (for the tray and handles)
- Nails or screws
- Metal rod or strong bolt (for the axle)
- Hammer or screwdriver
- Saw
- Measuring tape
📏 Step 1: Build the Tray (The Box)
- Cut 4 wooden boards:
- 1 for the bottom
- 2 for the sides
- 1 for the front
- Nail or screw them together to form a rectangular box
- Keep the back open (this is where handles will go)
👉 Tip: Slightly tilt the front upward so materials don’t fall out.
🪵 Step 2: Make the Handles
- Cut 2 long wooden beams (about 1.2–1.5 meters)
- Attach them to the bottom of the tray, extending out the back
- These will act as your handles and support frame
⚙️ Step 3: Install the Wheel
- Drill a hole through both handles near the front
- Insert the metal rod (axle) through:
- Handle → Wheel → Handle
- Secure tightly so the wheel spins freely
👉 The wheel should sit under the front of the tray
🔩 Step 4: Add Support Legs
- Attach 2 short wooden legs near the front or middle
- This keeps the wheelbarrow balanced when not in use
🧱 Step 5: Reinforce the Structure
- Add extra nails/screws at joints
- If possible, add small corner supports inside the tray
🎨 Optional Improvements
- Paint or coat with oil to protect from water
- Add rubber grips to handles
- Use a metal sheet inside the tray for heavy loads
✅ Final Result
You’ll have a sturdy homemade wheelbarrow that can carry:
- Soil 🌱
- Sand 🪨
- Tools 🔧
- Plants 🌿
⚠️ Safety Tips
- Make sure the wheel spins smoothly
- Check all screws are tight before use
- Don’t overload it (especially if using light wood)
