Here’s how to do it 👇
🧺 What You’ll Need
- 1 fresh leek
- Acrylic or washable paint
- Paper, cardstock, or canvas
- Paper plate (for paint)
- Knife (adult supervision if kids are involved)
- Paper towels
- Optional: paintbrush, glitter, extra colors
✂ Step 1: Prepare the Leek
- Wash the leek thoroughly to remove dirt between layers.
- Cut off the dark green leafy top.
- Slice the white/light green part straight across (about 4–5 cm thick).
When you look at the cut side, you’ll see beautiful circular layers — this will form your “flower.”
👉 Pat the cut side dry with a paper towel so the paint sticks better.
🎨 Step 2: Pour the Paint
- Pour your chosen paint color onto a plate.
- Spread it slightly so it’s wide enough for stamping.
Tip: Pink, red, purple, and yellow work great for flower petals 🌷
🌼 Step 3: Dip and Stamp
- Press the cut side of the leek gently into the paint.
- Make sure it’s evenly coated but not dripping.
- Press it firmly onto the paper.
- Lift straight up.
✨ You’ll see a beautiful layered flower shape appear!
🌿 Step 4: Add Stems and Leaves
- Use a thin paintbrush and green paint.
- Draw stems under each flower.
- Add simple leaf shapes.
Let dry before adding extra details.
🌈 Step 5: Make It Creative
You can turn this into different art styles:
- 🌸 Spring garden scene
- 🌻 Bouquet card for Mother’s Day
- 🎆 Firework-style art with bright colors
- 🌺 Layered flowers using multiple stamps
Try mixing two colors on the leek for a gradient effect!
🧠 Make It Educational
Turn it into a learning moment:
- Teach kids about plant layers.
- Talk about vegetables and healthy eating.
- Practice color mixing.
- Count how many flowers they stamped.
🧼 Clean-Up Tips
- Wash the leek immediately if reusing with another color.
- Use washable paint for children.
- Cover your table before starting.
